Seeking God for Arkansas: The Spiritual Battle for Arkansas

He who is the blessed and only Sovereign, the King of kings and Lord of lords, who alone has immortality, who dwells in unapproachable light, whom no one has ever seen or can see. To him be honor and eternal dominion. - 1 Timothy 6:15-16

The following is the continuation of a series that began with a post titled Seeking God For Arkansas, which I highly recommend for the context it provides.

During this extended season of seeking God for Arkansas, I have been asking the Lord to reveal His perspective on current events. The Holy Spirit is highlighting the common gift of prophecy in the modern church not as fortune-telling, but as real-time direction for the prayers of the saints. Scripture often speaks of hidden wisdom made available only to those who seek it. I am asking the Lord, and would encourage you to ask, for the spirit of wisdom and of revelation just as the Apostle Paul prayed in Ephesians 1:17, for dreams and visions and divine understanding.

I found myself in one such moment this week at the Arkansas State Capitol. I visit the Capitol often to pray, and this week my prayers attached themselves to 1 Timothy 6:15-16 (shown above), that the kingdom of Jesus would reign above all. This prayer resonated in my spirit in an unusual way for over an hour as I walked the halls repeating the verse under my breath. It felt as though my prayers were a spiritual declaration before heaven.

As I prepared to leave I came upon a very peculiar message displayed on a monitor outside of the Senate Chamber. The monitor called the Senate to convene on March 19th, 2014, which was an especially odd date to list in October, 2018.

Suddenly, in my bewilderment, the thought occurred to me that it could be a Scripture reference. I have never done this, but right then I converted the date to 3/19/14, and went to the third book of the New Testament, the nineteenth chapter and the fourteenth verse, which was Luke 19:14. I could not believe my eyes.

But his citizens hated him and sent a delegation after him, saying, ‘We do not want this man to reign over us.' - Luke 19:14

For context, Jesus was telling a parable of a nobleman who went to receive a kingdom, but the citizens rejected his rule. The parable ends with the execution of those who rejected his rule. This is a serious parable! I had just been praying for Jesus to establish his kingdom in our Capitol. I immediately recognized the attitude of the citizens as the antithesis of my prayers.

It was immediately clear to me, by reasons I cannot explain, that there are two voices contesting ownership of our Capitol: the voice of the church and the voice of the antichrist spirit (1 John 4:3). Right now the voice of rejection is louder than the voice of the church. The church as a whole is unaware! The voice of our prayers has grown faint in our division and busyness. Isaiah’s words weighed heavily on me.

Justice is turned back, and righteousness stands far away; for truth has stumbled in the public squares, and uprightness cannot enter... The Lord saw it, and it displeased him that there was no justice. He saw that there was no man, and wondered that there was no one to intercede. - Isaiah 59:14-16

The Lord is looking for the voice of the saints to intercede. We must begin to pray for the church to wake up and come together in extraordinary prayer, especially during this upcoming Legislative Session beginning in January. I expect to see an unusual degree of spiritual warfare and difficulty in our state legislature. Our enemy is not passive in his efforts, and nor should we be. We have great hope in our Heavenly Father who hears our prayers.

Please pray for the upcoming elections of our state representatives. These elections will greatly impact the upcoming Legislative Session. Pray for the families of our candidates and for the love of Jesus to be exalted in their hearts. Pray for the ballot issues and pray that our churches would wake up and begin to come together in extraordinary prayer.
